Public Works Projects

Canon Manor Assessment District Engineering - Rohnert Park - California

Carlenzoli and Associates was retained by the Sonoma County Department of Public Works to provide Land Surveying and Civil Engineering Services associated with the Canon Manor West Assessment District. The improvements include the design and construction of water, sewer, storm drainage and service roads.

Our first order of work was to complete a topographic design survey. This was completed utilizing aerial topography augmented by global positioning surveys. The mapping of the project included locating existing utilities such as storm drain, water, PG&E, etc., property and/or right-of-way lines, and names of property owners for property acquisition and documentation.

The Sanitary Sewer System is being designed by Carlenzoli and Associates. The system includes approximately 3 miles of gravity mains, individual service laterals, manholes, a sanitary sewer lift station and nearly 2.0 miles of force main necessary to insure that the sewer system meets Department of Health Services standards. The design will incorporate the City of Rohnert Park sewer standards.

Carlenzoli and Associates is in the process of designing storm drainage improvements. These improvements include roadside ditch reconstruction, roadway storm drain crossings, approximately 4,500 lineal feet of storm drain pipe, approximately 3,500 lineal feet of driveway culverts, storm drain manholes and drainage inlets.

Carlenzoli and Associates is currently in the process of designing this project, which is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2005. Carlenzoli and Associates will be providing Construction Staking and Observation Services.

Sonoma County Juvenile Detention Facility - Sonoma County Architect

Carlenzoli and Associates designed the sitework associated with the new 140,000-square-foot Juvenile Detention Facility located at the Sonoma County Los Guilicos Campus. Carlenzoli and Associates has provided the Aerial Survey of the site and has completed a boundary evaluation and ALTA/ASCM Survey. Our involvement included comprehensive project management and organizing and coordinating the site improvements with all of the project consultants. Our engineering services have included the design of the site utilities including the storm drainage, sanitary sewer, public and private water systems and coordination of the electrical and mechanical systems.

Carlenzoli and Associates also provided the construction staking for the entire project.

Boyd Street Sewer Rehabilitation CIP Project - Santa Rosa - California

Carlenzoli and Associates was retained by the City of Santa Rosa to provide Land Surveying and Civil Engineering Services associated with replacing an old sanitary sewer main. The project was to replace a deteriorated sanitary sewer main in Boyd Street within the Southwest Quadrant of Santa Rosa. The main was identified by the City of Santa Rosa's Capital Improvement program as a high priority for replacement. The main had severe cracks and was actually missing pieces of pipe.

Carlenzoli and Associates involvement with this Project included Land Surveying and Civil Engineering Services necessary for the design and replacement of water laterals, sewer main and laterals, storm drainage and roadway improvements.

One of the main objectives was to minimize disturbance and interruptions to service during the construction. This was accomplished by considering alternative construction techniques and staged construction. The goal was to create a set of Construction Documents, which a contractor could simultaneously, replace/repair portions of the system, while keeping a majority of the network functioning.

Bodega Avenue Widening CIP Project - Petaluma - California

Carlenzoli and Associates was retained by the City of Petaluma to provide Land Surveying and Civil Engineering Services associated with the Capital Improvement Project's street widening and utility upgrades for 1,600 feet of the Bodega Avenue Corridor. The project included a design topographic survey, plan line layout, sewer mains, water mains, storm drains, traffic improvements and historic era streetscape improvements from the North Webster Street intersection to the City's Western Limit Line.

Together with a team of consultants, Carlenzoli and Associates developed the engineering plans and specifications for an innovative Historic Style Street. The work involved coordination of the project, research, design of the street composite structural section, design of sewer and water main upgrades, design of a new 30" storm drain system and design of the street crossings for a future underground district. Work included preparing Legal Descriptions and Exhibits for right-of-way acquisition by the City of Petaluma.

Carlenzoli and Associates also provided construction staking for the Contractor on the project.

Rio Nido Canyon Three Retention Basin and Storm Drain Design - County of Sonoma

Carlenzoli and Associates provided the Civil Engineering Services associated with the Rio Nido Canyon Three Retention Basin and Storm Drain design project. Carlenzoli and Associates provided the design services on issues dealing with the hydrology of the storm drain system. We were also responsible for the final placement of a diversion structure designed to interrupt the flow of an anticipated landslide as well as a retention dam designed to contain approximately 30,000 cubic yards of landslide debris. Carlenzoli and Associates provided the topographic mapping for the design of the two structures and the storm drain system.

Carlenzoli and Associates also provided Construction Staking and Observation Services.

Rio Nido Canyon Three Storm Drain Design - County of Sonoma

Carlenzoli and Associates completed the design of approximately 2,100 feet of 54" storm drain as an extension of a debris control project recently designed and constructed. The project included the replacement of the Rio Nido Canyon Three water system as well as upgrades to the fire protection system. The 54" storm drain will serve as an overflow outlet during high intensity storms diverting storm water that may potentially have a significant impact on the destruction of homes and properties within the Canyon. Carlenzoli and Associates provided the topographic mapping for the design. Carlenzoli and Associates then provided design services on issues dealing with the hydrology of the storm drain system as well as identifying the placement of the storm drain, water main and existing sanitary sewer. The project design was unique in that the new storm drain, upgraded water main and portions of an 8" sanitary sewer all had to be designed and ultimately constructed within the existing Rio Nido Canyon Three roadway, while at the same time keeping access and utility disruptions at a minimum. The roadway is only 10 to 12-feet wide and is bound by homes and century-old trees.

Carlenzoli and Associates also provided Construction Staking and Observation Services.
